Problem with 99 Daewoo Nubira not shifting out of park.?

I received several respnses to my problem with my 99 Daewoo Nubira. The car won't shift out of park and i changed the brake light switch and it did nothing. The most common response was that it is the solenoid. What is the solenoid and if this is the problem how can I fix it myself? If it has a floor shifter, it might be the button on the shifter knob itself. The linkage to this button might be broken.Problem with 99 Daewoo Nubira not shifting out of park.?sounds like your shift release solenoid . with ignition on foot on the brake pedal should allow you to shift out of park . some vehicles do have a manual override next to the shifter use something like your ign, key stick it in the whole and shift. you state you changed your brake light switch if it was only two wire then there should be another switch next to it ! chek for power using test light if no power check fuses.... good luck.
