How much it would cost me to have my brake lines fixed?

I change my brakes on my Nissan maxima 1993 and now my brake pedal are so soft and Im aware that its now dangerous to drive. This is my first time that happens to me. I have change brake pads so many times but this one really gave me problem. If theres air inside my lines then What can I do. If this is a big kind of job how much would it cost me. Thanx for all your answers and God Bless. How much it would cost me to have my brake lines fixed? If you can change your brake pads you can bleed your own brakes.

You'll need a helper. Have the helper pump the pedal two or three times and hold pressure on the pedal while you break open the bleeder screw on the caliper. Air and brake fluid will squirt out. The pedal will go to the floor. Tell your helper to hold pressure on the pedal until you close the bleeder. Repeat this procedure until you see just brake fluid squirt out and no air. Do the same thing for the other caliper. Add enough brake fluid to the master cylinder to top it back off when you are done.

You should bleed the brakes in the following sequence...right rear, left rear, right front, left front. (right being passenger side and left being driver side)How much it would cost me to have my brake lines fixed?Hello,,sounds like air in the lines for sure,,it ain't real hard,,just takes a couple minutes, but you'll need a smart friend to help you,,make sure you have enough brake fluid on hand in case things get out of control, haha, only problem is usually the bleeder screws are to tight to loosen and someone breaks it off,,that sucks,,or they turn it the wrong way and break it off,,so maybe saving some money means paying someone to fix you foul-ups. Find someone with the skills and the time to be able to fix anything,, you might learn the hard way to do yourself. How much it would cost me to have my brake lines fixed?sounds like air in line.

have ya never bleed the lines after re-doing brakes b4 ?

bleeding the lines isnt a big or hard job. no special tools required.(one wrench or eeekks vise grips)

may need a helper to pump and hold brake pedel while you turn the bleeder screw on the caliper tho.

Can i have your opinion?

lets say you had a friend since 7th grade and you 2 had 1 or 2 little fights that didn't brake up the friendship. then high school showed up(freshman year [9th grade]) towards the end of the school year (2nd semester) you had 2nd lunch instead of 1st lunch because of your schedule change.

so now you and your friend had the same lunch, so you start eating lunch with her and her new friends. (your kind of on the shy side so you don't make new friends right away) everyday you each lunch with them and then you kind of see your friend change for the worse. then in early june, she texted you saying you can't eat lunch her and her new friends she made that year. she didn't say why.

when you e-mailed her she didn't answer, she never returns anything. she even didn't say why when you have a friend to help out.

what would you do to this situation?

if you seek revenge, how would you get revenge? Can i have your opinion?I wouldn't seek revenge. She is just being caught up, I would forget about her because if she did that to you she is NOT a real friend. And if she did that you shouldn't even worry about her, no matter how hard it will be, people will do some mean stuff, but your true frirends will stay with you till the end.Can i have your opinion?Seek revenge? Don't be immature.

You've let us to assume a lot with the words %26quot;and then you kind of see your friend change for the worse.%26quot;

Once you saw your friend changing, why didn't you ask what the problem is? Why did you let it get this bad?

I would talk to her in person and try to understand what happened because none of what you said makes sense. Can i have your opinion?make new friends

u will feel much better with some one u feel comfortable around

i did and now i see where id be sitting if i were still wid my ex bff

im glad im at my own lunch table wherei feel like i can be meCan i have your opinion?the same thing kinda happened to me to my freshman year only my friend didn't turn for the worse so to say. she became a cheerleader. she didn't really talk to me after that. we usually didn't fight so i didn't understand what was going on with her. what i did was tried to talk to her and if she walked away i let her. i understand that it is hard losing a friend when you have been friends for a long time but they aren't really good friends if they change on you after your lunch schedule changed. i know this wasn't exactly what you wanted to hear but i hope it helps. you can make new friends too just like she did.Can i have your opinion?I'd just try to find her in the hallway or something to ask in person. Then she'd have to respond. But I wouldn't seek revenge. Revenge could be used better than on something like that. Can i have your opinion? This is classic high school.

Everyone changes when they get to high school. Some for the better, and some for the worse... your friend being a prime example.

Don't be hostile, then she has a reason to be your enemy. Just send her a text saying that it's okay, and if she ever needs you, you'll be there for her. Strengthen your relationships with your other friends and show her you can be happy with or without her.Can i have your opinion?wow what a bit*ch! honestly i would try to make alot more friends than her and try to enjoy highschool without her as*! she then will realize that you never needed her( cause you dont) and then that will make her feel like crap since she saw how easily you were doing without her. what come around goes around trust me her time will come(=Can i have your opinion?sometimes u just gotta let her go. if shes changin 4 the worst dont change as well. stay true 2 urselfCan i have your opinion?revenge? dnt get to mad about it

if she was rly ur friend from the beginning

she wouldnt have turned on you....Can i have your opinion?:/ I'm sorry hun, but I understand completely what you're going through.

The same thing happened to me in 8th grade.

I was best friends with this girl since Kindergarten, we even lived in the same neighborhood and everything. We never fought really, and we always talked about everything.

Then, one day in 8th grade, I was out of school sick for a couple of days. When I came back, I was like %26quot;Hey ____! I haven't seen you in a really-%26quot; but she just ignored me and just walked away. I was really confused, it was so sudden with nothing leading up to it, and to this day (I'm going into 12th grade now) I still don't even know whatever happened. I tried talking to her, but she would just act like I wasn't there. She talked to me once after, but only after her new %26quot;best friend%26quot; started talking with me first and all she said was %26quot;bye%26quot; as they left. That showed me that all she was, was a follower to begin with.

Eventually, I realized that I was better off without her as a friend. In high school she became a cheerleader and joined up with the %26quot;I'm better than everyone%26quot; clique, which was so different from the type of person I was. She turned into a real brat. I mean, of course, sometimes I still miss the old her. You just don't forget someone who was your best friend for that many years, but I realize that I don't want to be the type of person she is today and I don't to hang out with the type of people she does.. anyway, back to answering your question. Sorry, I just sort of came a a self-realization there.

I'd suggest trying to maybe talk with her face to face. If she won't listen or agree to discuss what the problem is, it's best just to let her go. You're right, she's changing, and that happens to quickly in highschool that it's hard to see it coming. It probably hurts a little bit, but in the long run you'll be better off without her, and you deserve a better friend than that. Don't seek revenge, just let it go. Show her that it's her loss. Can i have your opinion?Don't seek revenge.

I say just forget her. If she doesn't want to be your friend, go through high school without her. Someone like that you don't need to be around. For starters, she wasn't a true friend. Like My parents tell me, in high school you find out who your true are and aren't. So leave her be.

  • When to go for a motorcycle check up/ dirty brake discs?

    i have two questions:

The first check up is done at 600miles, they changed my Oil and brake fluids, checked tire pressure and lubed the chain.

when is the second time to go to get the bike checked?

also, how do you clean your brake discs so that they don't make noiseWhen to go for a motorcycle check up/ dirty brake discs?Your oil changes should be at around 3000-4000 miles, and depending on the bike, (using a general figure here) your first tune up and valve adjustments should be made at the first oil change, and every 6000 miles (like I said, depending on the bike) give or take. If your brakes are making noise, have the shop fix them, they shouldnt be, and if its brand new, the bike is under warranty. If your rotors are glazes, or have a defect, the warranty will cover it.When to go for a motorcycle check up/ dirty brake discs?Never heard of cleaning the disc to stop noise.

I usually chamfer the leading edge of the pads.

Also I spray the back of the pads with an aerosol (available at Pep Boys, etc) that puts a rubbery/plastic coating on them. There are also shims that glue onto the back to serve the same purpose. When to go for a motorcycle check up/ dirty brake discs?depending on where you live you should bring your bike in every spring before you start riding again for maintenance just to make sure everything is running right after the winter make sure there are no clogs or anything of that sort in your fuel, brake, intake lines just as a precaution and i agree with jon if your breaks are squealing or making any sort of noise they shouldn't be bring it in i had my brakes do that because they were too tight and it messed up my calipers which is a lot more expensive to fix down the roadWhen to go for a motorcycle check up/ dirty brake discs?Brakes can make a noise because of brake dust and road dirt getting on the disc ?you can use a brake cleaner that comes in aerosol form ?it evaporates very quickly and leaves no residue, spray on and wipe off with a clean lint-free rag.

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store

However there are other reasons brakes make a noise ?the most important being that the pads are worn check them to see if there is sufficient material left ?there is often a groove on the pad. Some brakes and calipers benefit from a blob of copper grease (copper has a higher melting point than ordinary greases) between the pad and the caliper pistons (for obvious reasons do not get it on the face of the pad). If the noise is intermittent when you wheel the bike at walking pace you might have a warped disc 撀爐his is expensive as you have to replace the disc (you can skim them but is it worth the risk?). A glazed pad might make a noise and you would notice a reduced braking efficiency, the glazing can be removed with steel wool, but if they are glazing because they are rubbing you will need to have the caliper looked at, if they are glazing because you are constantly applying the brake you will need to adjust your riding habits.

Depressurizing and pressurizing your fuel system? (details inside)?

I'm going to change the fuel filter on my aunts 1991 lumina. The problem is i'm not sure on how to depressurize and pressurize the fuel system. I'm looking to change the fuel filter. I've changed a fuel filter once on a 95 chevy blazer with a little help of my friend.

I'm only 16 and im SUPER good at working on cars. I know what to do and all that. I've been changing brakes and brake pads and all that work off and. Ever since i was 6 years old, i changed my first tire lol.

What if i dont depressureize and pressurize the fuel system? Will the car blow up? My aunt might give me the car since im getting my permit next summer.

Reason im doing this is because itll stall when you let off the gas, and i maybe figure its the fuel filter because she said it hasnt been tuned up in 4-8 years. And its been sitting there 3 years without being driven. It runs great, its just that damn stalling.Depressurizing and pressurizing your fuel system? (details inside)? The safest way to depresurize is to remove the fuel pump fuse, then crank the engine about 5 revolutions. This could cause the check engine light to come on and you'd have to get it reset later. Some shops will reset for free. No the car won't blow up if you don't depresurize, but fuel could spray everywhere when you remove the filter if the lines are pressurized. If you have a ingnition source around, then it could blow up. If the engine is running rough as if a cylinder is not firing, check the spark plugs and wires as well.

Would someone translate this love letter for me in spanish.?

I know its a lot but i would love if someone could translate this in spanish.

Its very important to me. I hope someone can help me.

I want to tell you i love you so much. You were everything to me. You were the first and only person i could say i love you to in my life but we can't be together because of what you believe. Some people are guy and still believe in god and still go to church an have relationships. Why you promise me so many things. You told me you never wanted to hurt me again, that you wanted to be with me for a very long time. If you know that you were going to brake up with me why you have to go and hurt me now. I was sooo happy with my life i never meet anyone like you before. I'm going to miss being with you, seeing your face smile, watching movies, and poping your pimples. But what im going to miss is the love that me and you had together.

I can wait for you because i love you soo much. If you ever change your mind and want to be with me i will be with you too. But i can't spend my whole life waiting for you.

I want you to think about what you are doing and and ask god what he really thinks about me and you being together but i want you to ask him from the heart so he understands. Tell him what you feel for me and how happy I made.Would someone translate this love letter for me in spanish.?sure I'll do it.

My english paper over rape....?

so i am writing a paper in my ap english class over something that changed your life, and i chose the time i got raped. its hard for me to write about but my teacher said that writing can help you overcome your emotional stress. i really want to put it into allegory form but i dont know how... could you help? let me tell you my story first.

So i was going out with this guy for about 3 months, and he beat me, all the time, but i was always to scared to brake up with him... and one day he came over to watch movies and as we were laying on my couch, i was getting up to get a drink, and he grabbed my arm and pulled me back onto the couch, me expecting the worst asked what he was doing, he said nothing in a sarcastic tone and let me free, once again i tried to get up but this time he grabbed my arm, pulled me back onto the couch, and pinned me down under his body, (he was a pretty big guy), and he started hitting me as if i was some kind of pinata, i could feel the color change on my skin creep up forming bruises on my face, ribs, arms... i felt a hot liquid run down my lips, blood. i started screaming but no one was home... then, he rapped me.

I FINALLY broke up with him and now have a boyfriend that i am planning on marrying, and we have been together for a little over 6 months. please help me get started with this paper. thanks in advance! My english paper over rape....?So it's basically a comparison/contrast paper? I just wrote one about a tough time in my life, so it can be difficult to write at first- but its incredibly therapeutic.

Describe yourself before and the rape: in a horrible, abusive relationship to a healthy one; personality change?, perhaps your trust in people was affected? Did you gain something (inner strength, self-confidence, courage to leave your ex) as a result of the experience? You can do this %26quot;point-by point%26quot; (before, after, before, after, etc.) and emphatically. My english paper over rape....?I don't know about allegory form, but if it's hard to write it, maybe you could write it in the third person. As if you were telling a story about a girl getting raped... A girl with a different name, etc.

You seem to be a really vivid writer. I'm so sorry that terrible trauma happened to you, and I'm very glad you found real love.

People need to know that rape happens even when the two people are dating.

oh, by the way, the reason i need it to be in allegory form is becuase i have to read my paper infront of the class and i will feel a WHOLE lot more comfortable if its in allegory form.Allegory form help! RAPE! real life.?If it was a one-time rape without the abusive cycle I'd say a wolf, bear, or lion pouncing on its prey. Since there was ongoing abuse, what about writing from the perspective of the wife of an abusive drunk husband who beats her? Too close to home maybe. The nerd at school who gets beat up and one day the bully corners him and carves out his heart? No, you want a scenario where the person survives. A bird, pretty to look at used to fly free then was caged by a mean man who plucks out its feathers one by one. One day he takes out all the remaining feathers. Someone who knows how mean the man is and hasn't seen the bird lately has one of the mean man's buddies take him out for a drink. While the mean man is away the person who hasn't seen the bird breaks in and releases the bird from her cage. He takes her home and takes very good care of her until she is healthy and able to fly. He takes her into the country and releases her.

I may be a high school student, but even I think that one big giant comparison of two different things will not fly well. To quote wikipedia, %26quot;He stepped up to the plate and took the bull by the horns.%26quot; That's changing way too much; I believe you don't know what you're talking about when you said it must be in allegory form, or you would have long since realized how retarded that sounds. If that's not the case, I apologize and either way, wish you the best of luck with your paper.

As for the man that raped you, I'm glad you left before he left you..... wrapped in glad bags in a ditch. Scum like that gives honorable men bad names. I hope you DO manage to reconcile with yourself, and are able to put it behind yourself. It certainly does not pay to dwell in the past, especially with such dark memories like that to relive.

like when to change your oil, low tire, etc =D. i have a nissan versa and it shows me when my car has low tire pressure and when the brake is still on. my friend has an acura car that shows you when you when you need to change oil, how man miles you can drive till your completely out of gas etc. its kinda nice cause i want an acura. i wanna know if there are other cars that tell you problems on the dashboard or if it even exist? lol. i need those kinda car cause i am clueless on cars lol. How do we fix problems and can all problems be fixed?

First of all i would like to say that this is only a theory a philosophical theory and has in no way been proved to be true its all subjective as all philosophy is. What I want from you Is you opinion do you think this would work and solve your problems in life? If not then why? And what is your own philosophy

    how do we fix problems?

Take this example lets say you are trying to approach a woman intending on dating her and you cant seem to pull it off every time you approach a woman you compliment her on her looks admire her personality but she just doesn’t seem to be interested in you and you don’t know why. you intend to fix this problem but you don’t know what you are doing wrong

personally i think this should be the way to fix any problem

first of course we identify the problem which in this particular situation it is “persuading a woman to get on a date”

then we take the problem and brake it into smaller components like for example

    1 the approach

    2 the subject of conversation

3 the type of woman being spoken too

4 your looks and fashion choice

ect ect ect, when in this phase of problem solving one should write as many components that come to mind think of every possible thing that can effect the outcome of the situation however indirect it may be

then we grab a single component to experiment with. Now if we know that every thing in life is on a spectrum with its polar opposite being on one side of this spectrum, in other words everything has its opposite an action is the opposite of a reaction, good is the opposite of evil, chaos is the opposite of order

    think of it like this

    good ----------------------------------------…

a good person would be here

    good -------x--------------------------------…

    and evil person here

    good----------------------------------…

now with that understood, one should first try the complete opposite of what he is doing instead of doing the same thing over and over so you grab one of the components and do the complete opposite like this

    before

    over groomed ------------x---------------------disgus…

    after

    over groomed --------------------------------x-disgus…

then you check the results if its the same result then we come to the conclusion that the complete opposite is not the answer but that the answer is probably at a specific point within the spectrum you will have to change your behaviour and check the results continually until you reach that point if you still don’t then the problem lies in a different component or components

eventually by varying your behavior of all possible components one would have to reach successful resultsHow do we fix problems and can all problems be fixed?to fix something is to change it. you are human so you will fix it with human reason, human reason created the problem in the first place, so we as a human race cannot fix any problems.

when you get away from humanity all problems fix themselves. How do we fix problems and can all problems be fixed? There should be a brain-storming session. There are experts in this world to create and remove problems. We can invite all those experts. How do we fix problems and can all problems be fixed? The first rule of thumb is

If it works already, don't fix it,

or or will become a problem, and

if all else fails, read the instructions. %26lt;}:-})

Should I follow Toyota's service schedule or just follow a rule of thumb when it comes to maintenance?

    2005 Toyota Highlander

I really don't feel like paying alot for the dealer to %26quot;inspect%26quot; things on my car although Toyota's service schedule recommends it.

Someone on a Toyota forum told me this, what do you think?

If you intend on just draining and filling your fluids you should do your transmission fluid and engine coolant at 30k. If you intend on flushing those systems you can wait until you reach 45k, at that point I would do trans fluid, engine coolant, power steering fluid and brake fluid. How I recommend to my customers to maintain their vehicle is 5k oil changes and tire rotations, 15k along with the aforementioned do a wheel balance and alignment, between 15k-20k change your cabin filter and engine air filter (depending on where you live, i.e. dust, a lot of pollen, etc. 30k-45k recommend engine coolant and trans fluid, as well as brake fluid and power steering fluid closer at 45k. Between 45k-60k I would do your front and rear differential fluid if you have 4wd/awd and maybe a fuel injection cleaning. At 60k-90k I recommend plugs, plug wires, PCV valve (at least check it). At 90k I recommend (depending on the car, year) timing belt, water pump, cam/crank seals, accessory drive belts (serpentine drive belts) if they haven't been changed recently since you have to remove them to do timing belt, etc. That's maintenance.

Repairs such as brake pads, new tires, drive belts, etc are as needed.Should I follow Toyota's service schedule or just follow a rule of thumb when it comes to maintenance?Nice vehicle, if you do the maintenance suggested, it will last and last.

The vehicle is getting older.... if it doesnt have any warranty, follow the schedule but dont get dealers to do it because yes, they are way more money, especially toyota... find a good independent mechanic.. small guy.. who knows toyotas.... it will cost you half...

I always maintain my vehicles according to maintenance schedules and they last.. my honda is ten years old, going on 11.. its like new..d drives like new... looks amazing... no worries and I follow hondas recommended plan.. but I have taken it to an independent guy for the last six years.... and it costs little compared to the dealer....

Oil... always change at 5000k..... its the blood of the vehicleShould I follow Toyota's service schedule or just follow a rule of thumb when it comes to maintenance?sounds good i don't think you missed alot of stuff if any. usually as long as you keep up with the oil changes and regular stuff that pops up your toyota is going over 200,000 thousand miles with no strain and a good chance into the 300's. do you have a warranty left? that is gonna void the warranty if you awol the service on it.Should I follow Toyota's service schedule or just follow a rule of thumb when it comes to maintenance?Follow the schedule %26amp; rule of thumb. How much does it cost to get your car serviced?

check brakes, rotate tires, change oil, etc. and where would be the best place to get it doneHow much does it cost to get your car serviced?well, honestly, it depends where you go, and how much service work it needs, a basic oil change should cost around 25-30 bucks.. tire rotation is usually about thirty also.. checking the brakes most garages will do for free with the oil change, and tire rotation.. when the wheels are off to be rotated all they do is take a look at the brakes.. as for the best place to get it done,, i recommend a dealership, they are familiar with your vehichle, and are usually respectable. also if you should have a problem, you can go back to the car manufacturer to get it resolved.. i do not recommend the %26quot;quick lube%26quot; places, as they usually employ anyone off the street to do the job, and have been known to mess things up... its not worth the risk of engine dammage to save five or ten dollars in my oppinion..

What are your opinions on gibson vs fender? 10 pts best answer (Guitar Guitar Guitar)?

I want to know what your opinions are on the strat and the les paul.

As for me, I look at fender/squire as guitars for beginners, or players who are not very good. I know that there are studs that play fender (just look at srv, hendrix, etc.) but as for the look and sound of them. I look at them as childish guitars. I started with a quadruple off-brand stage guitar. I then traded up to a fender stratocaster. I was told they were the cream of the crop. The best guitar on the planet. (of course it was just because the guy at the only shitty hole-in-the-wall music store within 100 miles only guitar that he sold) I knew it was a good guitar and i played it for about two years. All my favorite players played les pauls and i just figured that was just because they just wanted to show off how rich they were. And it was a guitar for the extreme players.

But one day out of curiosity i was in portland and stopped by guitar center. I was checking out the guitars just looking around and one of the guys asked me if i would like to try out one. I picked up an epiphone les paul custom silverburst.... and my whole world was changed. I felt like a god playing that. The guy at the store asked me what i played and I told him. He was totally dumbfounded that i liked this %26quot;Crappy off-brand%26quot; so much more than my %26quot;Prestigious fender%26quot; i don't know what it was either. I played them on the same amp. but the feel of that guitar. the look, everything about it was amazing. The only thing better than that was the price. It actually cost less than my fender. I was so pissed off when i found that out. I felt totally sheepish that i bought the fender. I didn't even want to play the gibson because i know that i would probably sell my car to buy it.

The only think i can compare it too is when you are comparing cars. I look at a fender like an automatic. Its easy to use. everybody has one. but none of the Professional racers use them. on the other hand, Gibson's are like manuals. Way more fun. Once you get good at them there are way more things you can do with them. And you have the option to be a professional racer once you are good enough. You can burnout without ruining your brakes, you get better mileage. but they are not hyper-simplistic and super-easy.

when someone says their car is automatic and you get that feeling of some disappointment, i get that same feeling when someone says that their guitar is a fender. What are your opinions on gibson vs fender? 10 pts best answer (Guitar Guitar Guitar)?i have a fender and im just starting out and i dont like the look of them they remind me of the first act walmart guitar i personally like gibson out of your chooses but my all time fav is ibanezWhat are your opinions on gibson vs fender? 10 pts best answer (Guitar Guitar Guitar)?I'm totally looking to get an electric (as I have been playing acoustic for a while and want to start something new) and what you wrote is really interesting! I haven't even gone to try out the guitars, but I really feel like I should get the Les Paul. Hmmm.... Sorry if this is confusing...

    Question about changing brakes?

I was following directions from an Edmunds website, and one paragraph said this...

The rotor is that shiny metal disc staring you in the face right now. You can almost see your reflection, right? Get your eyes level with it. If you can't see your face, or at least its general outline, it may mean that the disc needs servicing or replacement. Below, we'll show you how to check this disc for scoring or marring, and what to do about that.

If my rotor is covered in brake dust, will I still be able to see my reflection?

Does a LOT of brake dust mean its time to change my breaks?Question about changing brakes?A rotor that has been used on a vehicle will be very shiny. There should not be enough brake dust on the rotor to hide your reflection.

If the brake pad lining appears to be the thickness of a 3.5 disc or less, you should replace them.

I would also recommend taking your rotors in and having them checked for thickness and to see if they can be turned, if they are thick enough I would suggest having them machined.

A new rotor or a resurfaced rotor will have a dull silver color associated with them, you will not be able to see a reflection of anything in them.Question about changing brakes?how thick are the break pads if there are thin then replace themQuestion about changing brakes? When servicing the breaks, the rotors should always be machined or replaced. Most shops charge (IF you bring the rotor TO THEM) 4$ per rotor to machine them back to flat.

Brake dust is irrelivant if the rotors and pads are in good condition and you don't hear any squeaks or grinding.

If you have no idea what you're doing, please have your brakes done by a professional, I'd prefer to NOT be rear-ended by a do-it-yourselfer.Question about changing brakes? No, a lot of brake dust doesn't have to mean it's new brake time. Buy some brake cleaner to remove the dust and look at the pads... if the liner is worn to the metal %26quot;screech tab%26quot; then it is time to replace, otherwise, just spray them clean and re-assemble.Question about changing brakes? You can wipe off the brake dust. Just don't breathe it in. As for if you need to change your brakes, if the rotors feel perfectly smooth to the touch then they're likely okay, providing they're not worn down below the minimum thickness. Brake service centers and most garages have the specifications on minimum thickness for various types of rotors -- and the tools and know-how to measure them. If they're too thin the rotors are not strong enough and they can overheat, warp, crack or even snap off under heavy braking. (Which means you then have NO brakes on that wheel and the car can spin -- especialy on a slippery road surface.)

If the rotors are grooved on the surface they need to be either machined smooth again or replaced with new ones. Again, sometimes they can't be machined because they will have to be shaved down too thin and then they're not safe anyway.

Brake pads. If they're getting down anywhere near eighth of an inch or so they are dangerously low and should be replaced pronto. One sudden stop can strip off the last of the pad material and then it's metal on metal and that's bad news indeed. They won't work right, they'll screech like all get-out, and they'll get so hot you can actually weld a brake pad backing plate to a rotor. Not kidding, okay? Big bucks to repair if you don't crash beforehand.

If you have any doubts at all about whether your brakes are up to scratch or not, take your car to experts and let them have the responsibility of putting things right if needs be. Remember it's not just if they look okay, those rotors must be within the safety tolerance or they can fail very suddenly.

How and what do i need to replace my front brakes?

short on cash and gonna jump in the water, so to speak. and going to change front brakes on my buick lesabre 1993 and was wondering if i need any special tools to change front brakes. oh. and was hoping for a general explanation on how to do it.and if nobody can help, oh well im just gonna put em on the same way i took off the old ones!! thanks for your time and wish me luck!!How and what do i need to replace my front brakes? This link has instructions and pictures.

http://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_to_reHow and what do i need to replace my front brakes?A warning: brakes are safety-critical components and doing the work yourself alone for the first time is definitely a bad idea.Get someone with some specific hands-on experience to assist/guide you; next time you can do it alone.

Check a how-to video for your car if available or, alternatively, for a similar one. You shouldn't need special tools, just standard ones (pliers, a set of ring or open or socket wrenches, a C-clamp to press in the pistons) plus a set of new, preferably original brake pads, which is what you want to replace. Check also the rotors - if worn, thin or with deep grooves, replace them too (in pairs!).

Although bleeding is not required, I would suggest a thorough bleeding to renew most of the fluid - the pedal would be higher and firmer than before. How and what do i need to replace my front brakes? You will need 3/8%26quot; allen key, either socket or wrench to remove caliper bolts (2 of them per side). Remove caliper from rotor by prying off with pry bar or large screw driver , remove pads, push in caliper piston with a large c clamp or large channel lock pliers. If you are changing rotors they will either pull right off or you might have to hammer off if rusted on. Lubricate caliper bolts with synthetic brake grease so that the slide freely in and out of caliper bolt bore. Install pads then bolt caliper back on. Do one side at a time so you can look at a complete side if you get stuck. When finished and tires are on Do Not Move Vehicle until you press brake pedal a few times to push piston out to contact pad with rotor (hard pedal). How and what do i need to replace my front brakes?NO. you dont mess with brakes if you dont know what youre doing. this is a vital system of your car, and if something is done incorrectly, not only can you damage your car, but you can hurt yourself and others because of your faulty work. i highly recommend buying a chiltons or haynes repair manual from kragen or autozone and reading up on how to change your brake pads. also if your looking for this to be cheap, you might aswell look up on craigslist for a mechanic that can take it on as a side job, or just take it to a shop. if you dont have any of the tools or a discount on the parts, your gonna end up paying close to what youd be charged by a mechanic anyways. id say without looking at your car, id charge you about 60 to 80 bucks depending on whether u wanted the rotors replaced or resurfaced. also thats not even mentioning if you mess something up while doing this work.

your car isnt the newest either, and sometimes things can get picky and difficult on a car that old.

Signs your oil needs to change?

well how do you know when your vehicle needs an oil change? see i have a 98' doge ram. i have gotten it serviced in april, but during the time it was not in operation due to some brake problems i had it with. now it is driving now. and stopping for that matter lol. The problem is as it is driving, you would feel a bit of shaking with the truck, then sometimes the oil gage would drop to empty, then recover back to almost full (a line away from the full gage). when tested, the oil stick shows there is sufficient oil (just above the full mark). is this a sign the oil need to change or is there other possibilities.Signs your oil needs to change?the oil gauge does not tell you if it's full or empty it tells you if you have enough pressure or not. it should be your oil pump is failing. you can take a chance and change it or take it to a mechanic and let them tell you exactly what's wrong with it.Signs your oil needs to change?you need to change your oil around every 3,000 miles. or every year if you dont drive it over 3000 in a year.Signs your oil needs to change?Black.

Feels 'gritty', or at least not thick.

Smells like gasoline or has a 'sour' smell to it.

And check your oil level after your engine has set for an hour. Losing oil pressure will cause serious damage.Signs your oil needs to change? If it's dirty on the dipstick, change it.

-looks like you got most of them right.Im doing driving pratice test can you check them please? ?OK...I'm not going to read all of this, but # 3 and #4 are wrong. the extra pedal in a vehicle with a manual transmission is called the clutch and the blind spot is an area of road way that cannot been seen from the driver seat, it's typically an area like if a car is coming up to pass you on a 4 lane, and you're in the right lane, and the vehicle passing you is in the left lane, there's a spot where you won't be able to see them.Im doing driving pratice test can you check them please? ?wow you have to write all that. i never had to do that. anyways i read like the first line and it's awesome and so you'll do fine i'm sure. good luck.

(lol i doubt anyone's gonna read all that hun)Im doing driving pratice test can you check them please? ?The big thing I wanted to point out is about number 3. People answered the others(2nd person got them) so I want to give a clear thing here. OK in a manual the extra pedal, so that is the pedal an automatic DOESN'T have. All cars have an accelerator(gas) and brake, and I never heard of a go pedal(maybe slang for gas pedal and that was your confusion).

Math: when a car skids to a stop?

    The question:

When a car skids to a stop, the length L, in feet, of the skid marks is related to the speed S, in miles per hour, of the car by the power function below.

    L = (1/30h)S^2

Here the constant h is the friction coefficient, which depends on the road surface.?For dry concrete pavement, the value of h is about 0.85. (Round your answers to two decimal places.)

    (a) If a driver going 45 miles per hour on dry concrete jams on the brakes and skids to a stop, how long will the skid marks be?

    79.41ft

    (b) A policeman investigating an accident on dry concrete pavement finds skid marks 228 feet long. The speed limit in the area is 70 miles per hour. Is the driver in danger of getting a speeding ticket?

The driver's speed was 76.25 mph so it appears the driver would be in danger of getting a ticket.

    (c) This part of the problem applies to any road surface, so the value of h is not known. Suppose you are driving at 55 miles per hour but, because of approaching darkness, you wish to slow to a speed that will cut your emergency stopping distance in half. What should your new speed be? (Hint: You should use the homogeneity property of power functions here. By what factor should you change your speed to ensure that L changes by a factor of 0.5?)

SOMETHING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS/BREEDERS/SELLERS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ.?

THIS IS A LETTER WRITTEN BY A SHELTER MANAGER...VERY SAD!

A Letter from a Shelter Manager:

I think our society needs a huge %26quot; Wake-up%26quot; call.

As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all. ..a view from the inside if you will.

First off, all of you breeders/ sellers should be made to work in the %26quot;back%26quot; of an animal shelter for just one day.

Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you

would change your mind about breeding and selling to people you don't even

know. That puppy you just sold will most likely end up in my shelter when

it's not a cute little puppy anymore.

So how would you feel if you knew that there 's about a 90% chance that

dog will never walk out of the shelter it is going to be dumped at?

    Purebred or not! About 50% of all of the dogs that are %26quot;owner surrenders%26quot;

or %26quot;strays%26quot; that come into my shelter are purebred dogs.

    The most common excuses I hear are;

%26quot;We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat).

%26quot; Really? Where are you moving too that doesn't allow pets and why did you

choose that place instead of a petfriendly home?

Or they say %26quot;The dog got bigger than we thought it would%26quot;.

How big did you think a German Shepherd would get?

    %26quot;We don't have time for her%26quot;.

Really? I work a 10- 12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs!

    %26quot; She' s tearing up our yard%26quot;.

How about making her a part of your family?

They always tell me: %26quot;We just don't want to have to stress about finding a

    place for her we know she'll get adopted, she' s a good dog.%26quot;

Odds are your pet won't get adopted %26amp; how stressful do you think being in

a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new

family from the moment you drop it off. Sometimes a little longer if the

shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it

    sniffles, it dies.

Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with about 25

other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it

    eats and sleeps.

It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that

    abandoned it.

If your pet is lucky , I will have enough volunteers in that day to take

him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides

having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out

of its pen with a high-powered hose.

If your dog is big, black or any of the %26quot; Bully %26quot; breeds (pit bull, rotti

e, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the

front door. Those dogs just don't get adopted.

It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are.

If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is

    full, it will be destroyed.

If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable

enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long.

Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week and are destroyed

for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this

    environment.

If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles chances are it will get

kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed

because shelters just don't have the funds to pay for even a $100

    treatment.

Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed

a perfectly healthy, scared animal being %26quot;put- down%26quot;.

First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash.

They always look like they think they are going for a walk- happy, wagging

    their tails.

Until, hey get to %26quot;The Room%26quot; , every one of them freak out and put the

brakes on when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can

feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens

    with every one of them.

Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 vet techs depending

on the size and how freaked out they are.

Then a euthanasia tech or a vet will start the process.

They will find a vein in the front leg and inject a

lethal dose of the %26quot;pink stuff%26quot;.

Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk.

I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the

resulting blood and been deafened by the yelps and screams.

They all don't just %26quot;go to sleep%26quot;, sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp

for air and defecate on themselves .

When it all ends, your pets corpse will be stacked

like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals

that were killed waiting to be picked up like garbage.

    What happens next?

Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? You'll never know and

it probably won't even cross your mind.

It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right? I hope

that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't

get the pictures out of your headSOMETHING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS/BREEDERS/SELLERS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ.?You might want to post that as an answer to any %26quot;I wanna breed my cute bunny/kitty/dog%26quot; questions that are so often on here. they seem to think it's OK to say they have homes lined up for them but they don't stop and think that every animal they breed takes away a potential home and causes the death of one of these unwanted shelter animals.SOMETHING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS/BREEDERS/SELLERS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ.?This is soo sad :(

I would never ever give my dog for adoption :(

i love them like they are my babiesSOMETHING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS/BREEDERS/SELLERS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ.?awwwwwwwwwww. thats sad =[SOMETHING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS/BREEDERS/SELLERS, EVERYONE SHOULD READ.?I HATE the idea of someone keeping ANY animal in a cage or several cages %26quot;just%26quot; to breed them. That is sick. They just want money out of it. I have seen it where they have laid in their own fecal matter for who knows how long, never been touched by a human.

It is sooooo sick. I wish they were outlawed.

I saw one where a man sold chinchillas that had a 12 inch.. seriously INCH by 12 inch cage. Length and width. Height? 12 inches.

A whole WALL %26quot;FULL%26quot; of cages... at least 200. Of females in these 12 inch cages. With a door to each one for a male to get in and mate.

Do you really think they care about the wellbeing of any of those animals????

When they can get 100 dollars per chinchilla or 1,000 or more for the purebred dogs? If they had a warm caring heart... they wouldnt keep them in those small cages with no love in the first place.

Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?

To all and any of you who have thought about breeding your dog for money... Please read this and tell me your thoughts now... I am in tears... This is taken from an american website called %26quot;For The Sake Of Dogs%26quot;...

The most common excuses I hear are; %26quot;We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat).%26quot; Really? Where are you moving too that doesn't allow pets? Or they say %26quot;The dog got bigger than we thought it would%26quot;. How big did you think a German Shepherd would get? %26quot;We don't have time for her%26quot;. Really? I work a 10-12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs! %26quot;She's tearing up our yard%26quot;. How about making her a part of your family? They always tell me %26quot;We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her we know she'll get adopted, she's a good dog%26quot;.

Odds are your pet won't get adopted %26amp; how stressful do you think being in a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off. Sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it sniffles, it dies. Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with about 25 other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps. It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it. If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose. If your dog is big, black or any of the %26quot;Bully%26quot; breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door.

Those dogs just don't get adopted. It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are.

If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed. If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long . Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week and are destroyed for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this environment. If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles chances are it will get kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed because shelters just don't have the funds to pay for even a $100 treatment.

Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed a perfectly healthy, scared animal being %26quot;put-down%26quot;.

First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash. They always look like they think they are going for a walk happy, wagging their tails. Until they get to %26quot;The Room%26quot;, every one of them freaks out and puts on the brakes when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens with every one of them. Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 vet techs depending on the size and how freaked out they are. Then a euthanasia tech or a vet will start the process. They will find a vein in the front leg and inject a lethal dose of the %26quot;pink stuff%26quot;. Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk. I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the resulting blood and been deafened by the yelps and screams. They all don't just %26quot;go to sleep%26quot;, sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp for air and defecate on themselves.

When it all ends, your pets corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals that were killed waiting to be picked up like garbage. What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? You'll never know and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right?

I hope that those of you that have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head I deal with eveStill wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores? It's sad that people %26quot;use%26quot; dogs as objects instead of the living, breathing, feeling creatures they are.

I volunteered in a dog pound from the time i was 15 through 22 years old, and saw more heart breaking things than i care to think about. Lots of death, illness, abuse, and WASTE of precious little lives.

all thanks to humans and their greed and ignorance.Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?Do you live in california? I saw this posted on CL in my town. It was so sad to read....i just adopted a dog two weeks ago. My brother just adopted a dog and so did my uncle. I try to get everyone I know to adopt. I also own two rescues and one dog from a no kill shelter I adopted years ago. People need to wake up---spay and neuter and adopt/rescue!

BTW: the last dog I adopted from a high kill shelter was a purebred young Bull Terrier!Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?Wow, I'm speechless.. How sadStill wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?BEEBS I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO YOU FOR POSTING THAT ! ITS TIME PEOPLE TAKE OFF THERE ROSE COLORED GLASSES AND SEE WHAT REALLY DOES HAPPEN TO THOSE POOR POOR ANIMALS ....

VERY SADStill wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?I'm crying, and speechless.Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?I see it on the animal programmes I am aware of how the dogs end up and the irresponsible owners that take them there.

When I got my dog, I got him knowing that whatever happened he was going to be our responsibilty for the next 14 odd years and I would never put him in a shelter......

It doesn't make a difference where you got the dog from be it a great breeder, pet shop, or whatever, if the owner is irresponsible and had bought the dog on a whim they will give it up regardless of where they purchased the animal it is human nature and a cruel fact of life.Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?i read it sad story..but it don't change my mind on breeding..Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores?I read this (someone posted a link on another question) and am in tears, because my stepfather took my six month old black german shepherd/dingo mix dog to a shelter when I was twelve (I am now 24) and all I can think about is how abnormally HUGE and hyper this sweet girl was and it breaks my heart to think that this could have (and most likely did) happened her to :(

I really think everyone needs to read this. Everyone who decides their dog needs to create puppies that will take homes away from THESE dogs needs to read this! I just recently had to give my fiance a wake-up call because he was refusing to nueter our then 6 month old rotty/%26quot;puggle%26quot; puppy, because Cujo is fully grown (according to vet) and only the size of a large beagle - with the colorings of a pure rott. My fiance decided that people would LOVE to have a beagle sized rott - it took all my restraint not to slam my fist into his face...instead I took him to the locals shelters (yes, plural) and MADE him look every dog there in the eyes and tell that poor animal that he was so selfish that he didn't care how many potential homes he took away, he was going to breed his dog, create unhealthy unneeded puppies just to make a buck.

It worked. My dog is neutered.Still wanna breed and buy pups from pet stores? This is the reason why I never want to have pets. My wife has a cat. She is 17 years old. Family members told is to %26quot;put her to sleep%26quot; because it is more humane. It's all BS, like you said, it's just an animal to them. Most of them have pets they %26quot;put to sleep%26quot; and had gotten new ones and they lecture us about %26quot;putting our cat to sleep%26quot; just because she is diabetic (need insulin shots twice a day) and hyper-tyroid (needs pills). I am not happy because I spend a lot of money on her (medication and boarding when we travel) but she has been with my wife longer that I have. But I told my wife, no more pets when our cat passes. It is not fair to the animal, no matter how you cut it.

How would I change the brake pads in my honda accord?

I need to change my 2 front brake pads...my friend did it a few years ago and I watched him but don't remember much of it....but I think I can change them myself I just need to know what to do...

I know you need to raise your car and take off the wheel...from there it's pretty straightforward I'm assuming.

I have socket wrenches is that all I need? How would I change the brake pads in my honda accord? If you plan on doing work on your car yourself, be smart about it. Get a manual for your car. Chilton's are the best, you can usually get the right one at your auto store, and it will come in handy for all the little things down the road that will eventually go bad. Dude you have to make sure things are right...those are your brakes...spring for the book ..they run about 16.00 dollars.

  • What do I need to know what's under the car?

I need what are the brake, and steering fluid. I'm still learning how to change oil and how to know if it needs new oil or not. I'm just not sure what else I need to know about what under the hood. I would love to know if theres also such thing called Motor fluid or whatever you wanna call it. I also wanna know what I need to learn about tune ups and allign tires and how to get your brakes tighten. I know it's a lot but just answer as much as you can. Thanks. What do I need to know what's under the car?your brake and power steering fluid will be shown on your vehicle, probably the caps. there are different kinds. Dot III, IV ect. but if you use the wrong fluid it could mess up your system, so make sure you get the right stuff for your specific vehicle. take it to napa and have them look at it if you are unsure.

Just read the cap on your oil input, should tell you what type of oil to use. To tell if your vehicle needs oil, just take out the dipstick, and clean it off, replace, then take it out again and you can see where on the stick the level of oil is. the dipstick will tell you if you need to put more oil in or not.

Motor fluid? there are a lot of fluids that go into a vehicle, any one could i guess be classified as motor fluid, but there is no specific fluid that would be classified as motor fluid.

browsing websites is the best way to learn things, just use google and make sure to include your vehicle make and model in your search. example: align tires on 1989 ford explorer

good luckWhat do I need to know what's under the car?Get a Haynes manual for your car because this will tell you where everything is and how to carry out servicing, routine repairs etc. Easy to understand and well illustrated.

Brake fluid is what you have in a hydraulic brake system which is pretty standard on cars these days. When you press the brake pedal the fluid (usually a type of industrial alcohol) is forced down a cylinder known as the 'master' which in turn sends fluid down tubes to the brake cylinders known as 'slaves' where the pressure of the fluid forces the calipers into contact with the disc thus slowing and/or stopping the car. Brake fluid only lasts a certain time and must be replaced at regular intervals to ensure efficient, safe braking. There is a container known as the brake fluid reservoir which you will need to top up from time to time. Replacing the brake fluid means pumping the old fluid out and new fluid in and making sure there aren't air locks in the system. This process is known as 'bleeding' and is usually a 2-person job, refer to car manual and it will explain in detail how to do it.

Steering fluid is what you have with power steering where turning the wheel is assisted by another hydraulic system. Again this fluid will have to replaced at regular intervals.

Other things it's useful to know under the hood (or bonnet as we say here in the UK) are the radiator fan (belt driven by the engine), alternator (charges the battery while your engine is running), the battery (12 volts), the distributor (if it's a gas car) which sends the ignition current to the spark plugs,

the ignition, the spark plugs (if it's a gas car), the fuel pump and injectors (if it's a diesel car), the main engine block, the water pump, the air intake, the exhaust manifold. If your car is front wheel drive then your gearbox will also be underneath the hood.

Oil should be changed every 5-10,000 miles (depends on the make and model of the car) and unless you know exactly when the last oil change was, you should change the oil asap. Make sure you keep the old oil in a suitable container and take it to a garage. Most of them recylce used sump oil these days.

I'm not sure what you mean by motor fluid but there are addatives like RedEx which you can put in your fuel to improve the car's performance.

Tuning up, adjusting the tyres and adjusting the brakes: unless you are a competent mechanic, best left to someone who is. Basically tuning is the timing of the ingition pulse from the distributor to the spark plug in a gas car which has to be spot-on for the engine to run efficiently. Tyres have to be aligned and wheels balanced to ensure safe, efficient roadholding while the brakes must be so adjusted to apply evenly on each wheel (if this is not done properly the car may slew to one side or the other when braking which can be both alarming and dangerous).

    Hope that helps

    Safe, happy motoring

How do I change the the front brake rotors on a '97 Honda CIvic?

I have changed rotors before but once your remove the brake caliper on a '97 Civic, the rotor is still held in place by what appears to be part of the hub.

I know that normally you remove the brake calipers and then simply slide the rotor off the studs. But this '97 Civic isn't designed that way. Can anyone tell me what I need to unscrew/un-bolt to take the old rotors off?How do I change the the front brake rotors on a '97 Honda CIvic?the big nut in middle of hub used on front wheel drive and screw or lock washer in between stud holes loosen nut before taking off caliper or loosen before car jacked up

How do you know when your fan belt needs changing?

My car (2001 Saturn SL-2) just stalled and wouldn't start for a few minutes. When it finally started up, the brakes were stiff and it would rumble before it finally get some gas and go. There was also a squeaky sound as I was driving. This same problem occurred in Flagstaff while I was up there going to school. I figured it was the cold weather, but I'm now in southern AZ and there's no cold weather going on here. How do you know when your fan belt needs changing?A squeaky noise may indicate a loose fanbelt or a fanbelt encountering too much resistance.

In this case the sound will be like: Whinnninnninnninnnn!!!

If you have a serpentine belt (a belt that winds around engine components like a snake), you don't necessarily have to replace it. It may be just loose. Snug it up. There will be an adjusting bolt somewhere most likely near the alternator. Buy a Haynes manual for your car at an Autozone ($12.00). It will show you exactly where the bolt is if you can't find it.

If you have one belt that wraps around the crankshaft pulley, the air conditioner compressor, and the alternator

(a more simpler setup to the serpentine), there will be an adjusting bolt right in front of the alternator. Snug it up if the belt is loose.

Does it happen when you are steering? Turn the car on and steer the wheel lock to lock. If you hear a whining sound, you need power steering fluid. Un cap the reservoir and fill it. The Haynes manual will show you where it is.

Does the problem only occur when the AC is on? Switch it on and off with the engine running. It it comes and goes, and the belt is not loose, your AC compressor needs oil. Buy a can of R134a AC gas with compressor lubricant and inject it into the input port. The port looks like a tire valve at the top of one of your AC lines. Again, your Haynes manual and the directions with the R134a can will tell you the details.

Good Luck! This should only cost you around $20-25 including the manual cost. How do you know when your fan belt needs changing? Its not anything to do with the belt, Take it to your Saturn dealer and get it diagnosed and repaired. I would say a independent shop but most parts that I think would cause the problem are available at Saturn dealers only. How do you know when your fan belt needs changing? One problem has nothing to do with the other.

You can tell the fan belt needs replacing by two different ways. 1st visual, the spec for replacement is 50 cracks per inch in the belt, or the cracks exceed 1/2 the thickness of the belt. 2nd audible, A belt squeal that is constant and worse when wet. If the belt looks in good condition... a temporary solution is to put some silicon spray or lube on the belt... the noise will instantly stop.

Your problem about stalling, hard to restart, and running rough... is most likely a ignition problem. I would recommend taking your vehicle to a mechanic you trust. If the engine is not acting up when the mechanic is looking at it, they will most likely recommend a tune-up. It may or may not solve your problem. How do you know when your fan belt needs changing?I look at my belts, and if they have and cracking, or dry rot,I change them. I also like to carry spare belts since they are inexpensive. (usually)How do you know when your fan belt needs changing? If you drive the highways, I hope you have a cell phone and a tow company to call when you break down. %26quot;Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later%26quot; is a saying that means if you don't take the time to learn about your car and maintain it, the pain, aggravation and costs will catch up with you sooner or later. %26quot;An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure%26quot; is very true with automobile maintenance. Find a friend who maintains their own car and take that person to dinner. Let them suggest what's best to do now with your car. You could join a car club or something where they help you maintain your car.

They are ABS brakes and I have no clue on how to change it, but I want to change them myself to save a little money, money is tight right now, So how do you change the pads for a 96 Ford Taurus GL V6. Do I need to flush out the Fluid, If I do, How do I do that also? Thank you for your helpHow do I change my brake pads? With the front of the vehicle lifted off the ground, and properly supported by jackstands, remove the front wheels. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. Using a 12mm wrench, remove the two brake caliper bolts, and remove the brake caliper. Using a broken piece of coat hanger, hang the caliper on one of the coils of the spring. DO NOT let it hang by the flex hose. Using a 15mm 1/2%26quot; drive flex impact socket and impact gun, OR a 15mm 1/2%26quot; drive socket with a long johnson bar, remove the two caliper bracket support bolts, and remove the bracket along with the brake pads. The brake rotor should now just %26quot;knock off%26quot; the hub. Either replace, or take the rotor to a shop to be resurfaced. Bear in mind, the minimum thickness spec. for this particular brake rotor is 24.75mm. If the thickness is below that, you will need to replace the brake rotors. Using one of the old brake pads and a pair of channel lock type pliers, compress brake caliper piston all the way back into its bore. Clean off the hub surface of any rust, and apply a light coat of anti-seize compound. Re-install either a new rotor, or the resurfaced rotor (if still within specs.) and secure temporarily with two wheel nuts onto the hub. Clean off all brake dust on the caliper bracket, particularly the area where the brake pad sits, and lubricate with anti-seize. Re-install caliper bracket making sure the two 15mm bolts are TIGHT. Install new brake pads. Re-install brake caliper, paying attention to ensure the pads stay properly seated during re-installation. Turn steering wheel all the way to the right, and repeat the procedure as outlined. Once finished, re-install the wheels, and torque the wheel nuts to 95-100 ft.-lbs. in a %26quot;star%26quot; pattern. Release vehicle to the ground. PUMP UP THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL RESISTANCE IS FELT IN THE PEDAL, BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO MOVE VEHICLE!!!!! Hope this helps. How do I change my brake pads?Remove your wheels, take the calipers off the housing and do not loosen the brake hose, use a c-clamp to push the caliper piston back. Inspect the rotors, replace if they are grooved, rusted, or if you feel a pulsation - I recommend replacing rotors anyway. To replace the rotors, loosen the caliper housing bolts, and use a hammer if needed to pound the old rotor off, clean the hub surfaces, install the caliper housing, install the pads, and put the caliper back in place and tighten the bolts, then reinstall the wheel. Repeat this procedure on the other side. No bleeding is necessary. To do rear pads, you may need a special tool to retract caliper piston. How do I change my brake pads?willsoun Best wishes for you...

and they will take some $ for their work .. about $25 ...

    so that would count up too : 69 + 10 + 25 = $104 ..

and lets hope u r changing them before they damaged the Discs .. other wise that would cost u more ..

good luckBrake pads?Whatever you do dont take it to kwik fit. Pads dont take long to fit so the garage will prob charge you a hour labour 30- 60 pounds dependant on garage you take it to youre pads shouldnt cost that much being bmw 316. personally i wouldnt pay more than 50/60 to get it all doneBrake pads?i recommend only bmw parts. brake parts are all different in quality. these cars are designed to stop, maneuver and perform. you will lose some of that with cheaper parts and cause vibrations when braking. a common complaint on bmw's with aftermarket brakes.

It's best to purchase a Haynes Repair manual for your car. You can order them from any NAPA or Carquest automotive store. You may chose to go to a local library and sign out a Motors, Haynes or Chiltons big book and soak in detailed information and pictures or your particular braking system.
