How often do you think a brake cable should be changed espcialy when your doing trials and the levers are pulled hard? iv havnt had one snap yet and never want to.
I seem to change them about 2 to 3 months?Mountain/Trails bikes brake cable intervals?In my opinion, every 2-3 months is excessive and pretty costly. In my experience, brake and derailleur cables don't just break with no warning. They begin to fray long before they actually break.
Thus, if you inspect your cables on a regular basis you'll find potential issues before they ever become a problem. I visually inspect cables every month, or so, looking for broken wires in the cables. If you see no broken wires, run the cable through your fingers. You'll sometimes feel a wire getting ready to break before you can actually see it. (Be careful, though, frayed cables are sharp and hurt like the devil if you get stuck.)
I like to replace cable housings when I replace cables. This keeps everything operating nice and smoothly.
