Many people report that mechanical devices in dreams do not function properly such as entering a room and turning on a light switch with no resulting light. The most obvious reason for this, I think, is that since you are in a dream, there is no real connection between pressing on the brake and the car stopping. The brake isn't real so stepping on it doesn't actually do anything. Why would it?
The only way to stop the car is if your mind wills it to stop. I have been able to stop the car in my dreams since by ignoring the brake altogether and just concentrating on the car stopping. Obviously, this only works if you have at least enough lucidity to realize it's a %26quot;dream%26quot; car not a real one.
So what do you think? Have you had this type of dream or others where mechanical devices don't function properly?
I hope this might help people who are told this type of dream is supposed to symbolize helplessness, stress or that your life is going out of control. Sometimes your brain just forgets how things are supposed to work in the real world.

Incidentally, the light switch trick is one of the reality checking devices people who want to lucid dream use to tell if they are in a dream. Another would be to try to read something and see if the words change, don't make any sense or are completely unreadable.Do you have dreams where you're driving a car and the brakes don't work?To me, I think it means lack of control over your life or direction you want your life to go in, plus a sense of helplessness in that you are doing all the right things and it's coming out all wrong.
I have had other mechanical devices work like a charm with zero problems. But a car is more visceral and critical to one than a washing machine or a light bulbDo you have dreams where you're driving a car and the brakes don't work?That's a very possible explanation. Brilliant insight! I do believe that stress dreams however, tend to reflect stress in real life. But that's more of an opinion. Thanks for sharing your views!Do you have dreams where you're driving a car and the brakes don't work?I hope you understand me
on the other side evil spirits do whatever they do with us
until they will give up
but it takes longer
those things had been happened to me for over 14 years
I enter in my car and goes back instead go on
I break the car but it didn't stop
I turn the to the right but it go left
they do those things to disturb us, make us mad
persevere and this will be like a river going to oceanDo you have dreams where you're driving a car and the brakes don't work?Usually not, but sometimes I have dreamed that the car's breaks didn't work. Having had this happen in real life, it is no strange thing for such to happen in a dream.
Some dreams are mere fantasy, others are problem-solving scenarios, some are simply fantastic problem-solving scenes. I am reminded of that ultimate dream-scape movie series, The Matrix, with that marvelous line, %26quot;there is no spoon.%26quot;
Frankly, some people indeed, and rightly, dream with illustrations of helplessness. Usually, from my experience (and other things) if it seems that %26quot;your brain just forgets how things are supposed to work in the real world%26quot; then you have just forgotten that those matters (light switches, etc.) are not the issues in play. %26quot;Real life%26quot; details only apply when those specifics of %26quot;real life%26quot; are the items in question. If you are expecting dreams to reflect reality in all points then you are missing the point of dreams.
